Been busy recently but I finally got around to finishing the line art. Next up will be flats and then painting.
Working on a runabout sized craft for the larger ship I’m modeling. Really liking the design thus far, feels like I’m channeling Gallente design’s abit!
Right so this one I’m actually going to finish…I swear! :P
The painting I was previously working on just wasn’t feeling right to me so that one is scrapped. I will start up another painting later, using a better work flow.
For now I am having fun making a 3d model of the ship from one of my other paintings. I’ve wanted to take this design into 3d for awhile and really make it detailed and interesting. If all goes well with it I plan to use this design frequently for some fiction I’m thinking about starting up, but more on that later.
Working on the engines.
New painting wip shot!
Man I must say I am excited for this. I played so much Tribes 1 and 2 back in the day.
This was pretty much me yesterday, lol.
Went to turn it on and was greeted with POST error codes from hell and no video. Not good! After getting through my class for the day, me and a friend set out to rectify the situation. First I thought maybe my video card had died, but I swapped it out with another, no dice. Sparing details of troubleshooting, the CPU and possibly motherboard just died due to age and use I believe. The thing was four years old and used daily, can’t complain really.
I ended up deciding to just build an entirely new system to inhabit my favorite Lian Li aluminum case, which I’ve used for like 8 years. Went with a Core i5 2400 @3.1ghz, 8gb @1333, and an MSI GTX560. Haven’t had a real chance to put it through a real shakedown cruise, but it runs SC2 on extreme setting really smooth, so I’m happy so far! :D
As a huge fan of the original, I was very skeptical about how it would measure up, and was going to just skip it honestly - especially with 40k Space Marine coming out soon (my wallet is crying). However I saw so many positive reviews and a friend of mine is really enjoying it so I caved and snagged a copy of it.
I’m about 3 hours in and I’m already blown away by the attention to detail and style of the game’s art direction. I’ve found some quirks in the AI that broke my immersion abit, which was all the more jarring when everything else just feels so real. At one point I had back tracked and exited an elevator into a short hall that opened into a larger room, instantly being seen by the guards in that room. I had nowhere to go, but after abit the AI decided I had fled and started searching for me, even though there was literally no were I could have gone and not been seen. So that was abit of an immersion breaker, but it’s the worst I’ve come across - and let’s not forget, smart AI is one of the hardest things to create in games.
On a positive note about the AI / responsiveness of the game - I hacked a door and failed it, got locked out for 30s and thought “man it’d be cool if security rushed to this location, since they know someone accessed the terminal”. Just then, I was rushed by 3 guards and I thought “so cooool!!!”.
The game, it is afoot.
As yet unnamed hyper detailed 80’s style ship.
